Choice Gems Co started as a hobby of gem collection for love of color by its founder, Kins. Over the years it gradually morphed from being a hobby to a full-blown company registered in the State of Washington, United States.

A core part to our business is traceability and ethical sourcing. This was one missing component we thought we could fill and provide value to customers. For this reason, our sapphires and gemstones are traceable and ethically sourced. We don’t just use those terms because they are trendy, we use them because it is a fact. We are involved in the whole chain of production—from the mine to the market. We know many of the miners personally through our dedicated team in our buying outlets  in Nigeria, Australia and Rathnapura, Sri Lanka—home to some of the world’s finest sapphires and other gemstones.

Our Operations

The bulk of our operations takes place in our source countries. Even though we source from all over the world, about 80 – 90% of our sourcing takes place in Nigeria, Australia, and Sri Lanka where we have buying outlets and dedicated partners we work with. Our offices in those countries are well-known to major brokers and miners. This way we are involved in the supply chain. We visit the mines occasionally and miners and brokers come to us directly from the mines. On our part we do not buy stones from mines with evidence of child labor or conflict. We sponsor miners with proper tools and equipment to improve their mining practices, and we collaborate with mine owners to ensure mining is carried out in a sustainable way. Obviously, there are stricter regulations in more advanced countries like Australia than there are in Nigeria or Sri Lanka, but based on what is locally attainable we do our best to ensure our operations are sustainable for us, the miners and the community.
